Where does happiness disappear? Are there problems in life that seem to overwhelm us and little by little steal away our motivation, aspirations and desire to live? Or have people simply forgotten how to enjoy the little pleasures of life? The reasons for being unhappy may be different for everyone, but with any hesitation I can say that people are becoming more and more depressed, worried, and the feeling of happiness remains something related to the past, when everything was different…
There are things that we cannot change, but there are also things that directly depend on us.
Creating and maintaining a positive attitude is that inner “miracle” that can save us from constantly feeling unhappy and restless.
The first thing I did when I started working on my personal development was to change my attitude towards life. It’s not easy, I’ll say right away, but over time, my attitude towards the world around me became more stable, and I learned to positively perceive even not very pleasant events.
Therefore, I want to tell readers about 10 useful habits that I managed to form and which helped me to find a reason for joy at any moment of my life.
1. Stay optimistic under any circumstances
Ask yourself questions as often as possible. When it seems to me that there is a problem that is difficult to deal with, I ask myself:
- Is there anything good in the current situation?
- Can anything be changed now?
An optimistic outlook on life is not yet a guarantee that everything will turn out easily and simply for you. Everyone has problems. However, being an optimist means having a huge chance to overcome any difficulties much easier.
Sometimes it takes time to get your thoughts and feelings in order, because a person who is in a state of emotional arousal is unlikely to be able to think positively.
2. Create a positive environment around you
You choose what your world consists of: the people around you, sources of information, what you read, what music you listen to, and so on. Don't let anyone or anything drag you down. Clean up your world and get rid of what you don't need.
For that you can try this exercise:
- Identify the 2 most annoying people you often hang out with.
- Find out what are the 2 most annoying sources of information you have to use.
Try to dedicate your time to connecting with those who bring positive emotions into your life, and also minimize the use of negative sources of information.
3. Take your time
I have noticed that when I am in a hurry, for example, walking too fast, trying to think, talk, eat and live, things do not go very well. Negativity gradually accumulates, and stressful situations are created. But if I slow down the rhythm of life for at least a few minutes, my general well-being immediately improves, I become calmer, and my mind is cleared. In this state, it is much easier to manage yourself and build an optimistic attitude towards the world around you.
4. Make a peace treaty with the past
Have you ever noticed how much time you spend reliving negative past events, constantly replaying them in your head? This is just a huge absorber of vital energy and precious time. Negative images of the past cause negative emotions in the present, and those, in turn, cause new unpleasant memories. Remember that emotions are always generated by thoughts and only you can change your thought patterns.
For this you need:
- forgive your offenders, both in the past and in the present;
- focus on the current moment, find joy in what you are doing now at this moment in time.
5. Be grateful!
This is perhaps one of the most powerful and effective exercises. Gratitude has tremendous power. Give thanks for absolutely everything that is in your life, even for difficulties and disappointments, because they make you stronger, enrich your life experience. Look at your life in terms of what you already have, not in terms of what is missing. Every day, find and write down 5 positive things in your life that you are grateful for. This simple exercise will teach you to keep your focus on the positive side of things.
I suggest starting with these tips. If you manage to influence your positive thinking even a little, this will already be an important result. Working with yourself is probably the most difficult task, but it gives wonderful results.
But there is an important condition! It is necessary to let through all the positive thoughts, and not just seem cheerful and hide behind the sign of happiness. After all, when negativity boils inside you, and you try to suppress it with a frozen smile, this can only lead to disastrous consequences, for example, to psychosomatic illnesses. Therefore, it is important to work out the internal state, your thoughts and emotions. When harmony, calmness and balance appear inside, then outwardly you will begin to radiate happiness and positivity.
Be positive!
