7 “Destroyers” of Your Spine

Have you ever been in a situation where you tried to get out of bed in the morning but could not do so because of severe back pain?

Or maybe you have a relative who constantly suffers from problems with the spine or joints, and experts say that no one is immune to this, and the reason for this is a sedentary lifestyle?

As part of this article, I would like to talk to you about what actually causes back pain, and more specifically about the 7 "Destroyers" of Your Spine.

And even if you don't have back problems now, I wholeheartedly recommend that everyone read this information in order to avoid painful consequences.

Maintaining good posture is not as easy as it may seem. The fact is that it is not enough to control the position of your back when you stand, sit or move.

In fact, there are many external factors that directly affect back health.

  • The first factor is improper redistribution of weight on the feet.

Often, without realizing it, you stand on one foot with the other leg slightly bent. This causes a misalignment of the pelvis, which leads to curvature of the lower and then the upper spine.

Recommendation: Stand up straight, on two legs. Distribute your weight on the entire leg, without dropping to the inside or outside of the foot.

The second factor that leads to back problems is uncomfortable shoes.

It doesn't matter if you are running or just going to work, because it is your normal everyday shoes that play the biggest role in keeping your back healthy. It is the foot that is the first shock-absorbing defense of the spine.

Recommendation: Your shoes should be moderately loose and the sole should be relatively stiff so that the load on the foot is evenly distributed.

The third most relevant reason is a sedentary lifestyle.

Of course, I will not advise you to change your job, but…

Recommendation: Please sit at your desk correctly, distributing your weight evenly, on the right and left side of the pelvis, on the right and left leg, trying to maintain symmetry throughout the day. Do not cross your legs, but try to avoid positions that constrict blood flow. Use special pillows if your hands are pressed against the arms of a chair. Do not squeeze joints and ligaments as this causes numbness and pain and usually leads to back problems.

The fourth reason is incorrect posture during sleep.

Your sleeping posture is very important for a good night's rest as well as for the health of your back.

When you lie in bed, it is advisable to maintain the natural curve of your spine. This can be achieved by adopting a posture where your head, shoulders and hips are aligned and provide the necessary support for your head. The ideal position is usually lying on your back with your head resting on a firm pillow.

The fifth factor that directly affects the state of the back is the one shoulder bag.

Recommendation: Change such a bag to a backpack with wide straps, and carry it on two shoulders. But if your look does not allow you to wear a backpack, then at least do not load the bag with heavy things and regularly, for example every 15 minutes, change the side on which you wear it.

The sixth reason, which will surprise many people, is amateur swimming.

Since childhood, we know that if your back hurts, you should go swimming. It turns out that you swim and swim, but the back pain does not go away.

What's the problem?

Yes, swimming reduces the load on the back, but only if you follow the correct technique. So, if you swim with your head raised above the water, then relaxation of the spine is out of the question. In order for swimming to have a positive effect on your spine, only the instructor can provide a specialized technique.

  • And finally, the seventh reason is cold.

In response to cold, we experience not only shivering, but also muscle tension and contraction. All this happens imperceptibly, but this overstrain, subconsciously created in response to a draft of air, as an attempt to protect us, causes spasm and displacement of the intervertebral joints and provokes pain that can last for a long time.

The health of your spine determines the well-being of your whole body, so it's important to keep in mind the factors I've mentioned in this article and heed my recommendations for a healthy back and a pain-free life!
