High blood pressure can be controlled fairly easily with a healthy diet.
But some foods worsen your high blood pressure symptoms like none other.
And if you don't treat hypertension from the get-go, it can lead to life-threatening conditions like:
- Heart attack or stroke.
- Aneurysm.
- Heart failure.
- Weakened and narrowed blood vessels in your kidneys.
- Thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes.
- Metabolic syndrome.
- Trouble with memory or understanding.
- Dementia.
To make sure you never get there, start by eliminating the following foods from your diet:
- Pickles
If you suffer from hypertension, pickles are a definite no.
They may seem innocent and delicious, but the high amount of sodium it contains worsens hypertension.
Especially when only one whole dill pickle spear contains almost a third of an adult's daily sodium requirement.
- Canned soups
Aren't they amazing?
They save time and don't require any sort of hassle.
The problem with them is the high amount of sodium.
Some canned soups can contain more than half your daily salt requirement.
If you don't want to give up on canned soups, at least find a version which contains less salt.
However, the best option would be to cook your own broth or soup.
- Deli meat
This type of meat is a real bomb sodium for your arteries.
A 2-ounce serving contains a third of your daily salt requirement.
When you add bread, cheese, condiments, and pickles, your tasty lunch becomes a threat to your health.
Avoid this type of meat and turn to options that contain less salt.
- Frozen pizza
To preserve food, manufacturers often add tons of salt.
The downside to this is that it puts people suffering from hypertension in danger.
And while all pizzas are high in sodium, frozen pizza beats them by a mile.
- Canned or bottled tomato products
This shouldn't come as a surprise; canned foods often contain a lot of salt to avoid spoiling.
However, while they are preserved longer, they become real sodium threats to people with hypertension.
Luckily, there are plenty of options with less salt on the market.
All you have to do is check the labels very carefully.
Or make your own fresh tomato sauces.
