How to Treat Hemorrhoids with Simple Home Remedies

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins or group of veins in the region of the anus.

Hemorrhoids occur to people over 45 years old. This condition is more common among the wealthy.

Hemorrhoids can be:

  • Internal, which occur in the lower rectum. They are painless.
  • External, which develop under the skin around the anus. They are the most uncomfortable because the overlying skin becomes irritated and erodes.

The main causes of hemorrhoids:

  • Chronic constipation,
  • Effort during bowel movements,
  • Prolonged sitting.

Most symptoms as pain, irritation of the surrounding skin, the swelling, etc. improve with simple home remedies:

Add Fiber to Your Diet

  • Fiber softens stools, and they are reducing pressure on hemorrhoids.
  • Eat more high-fiber foods as Broccoli, beans, wheat and oat bran, whole-grain foods, and fresh fruit.
  • Take a fiber supplement (such as Citrucel, Metamucil, or Fiber Con) to decrease hemorrhoid bleeding, inflammation, and enlargement of the affection.

Increase slightly your intake to 25–30 grams of fiber per day. Also, increase your fluid intake.

Do simple aerobic exercises for 20–30 minutes a day because it can stimulate bowel function.

Establish A Routine

  • When you feel the need to go to the bathroom, don’t wait to avoid increased pressure and straining.
  • Schedule to sit on the toilet for a few minutes, each day. It can help you establish a regular bowel habit.

Take A Sitz Bath (a warm water bath for the buttocks and hips)

  • It can relieve itching, irritation, and spasms of the sphincter muscle.
  • You can sit in the bathtub with a few inches of warm water, or you can buy a tube from pharmacies.
  • Take a 20-minute sitz bath after each bowel movement.
  • Wash the affected area two or three times a day.
  • Gently pat the anal area dry.

Seek Local Relief

  • Don’t use creams and suppositories containing hydrocortisone for more than a week at a time. They are effective, but they can cause atrophy to the skin.
  • Witch hazel wipes (Tucks) have no harmful effects and they can sooth the area.
  • Place a small ice pack against the anal area for a few minutes to help reduce pain and swelling.
  • Sit on a cushion. It helps lessen the swelling of existing hemorrhoids and prevents the formation of new ones.

Treat The Clot

Apply home treatments for external hemorrhoid that formed a blood clot, and that have been present for longer than two days. These remedies are beneficial for the symptoms, and you have to wait for it to go away naturally.
