You’re probably wondering how effective masks are against what we are facing right now. Or if they offer you any protection at all against the virus.
Today, I will show you how you can protect yourself by wearing your mask properly. But first, let’s ask the real questions:
Are masks effective against this new threat?
If you’re wearing the mask properly, then a mask can offer you protection against the virus. However, you must know how to use it in order to be effective. Cleaning hands regularly and practicing social distancing must be a priority if you want to prevent infection.
What masks are effective?
There are three types of masks that you can use:
- surgical masks
- N95 masks
- cloth masks
All of them are efficient if you follow the rules provided below.
How to wear a mask effectively?
Before you put a mask on, you MUST clean your hands with either an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water. Then you can proceed with putting on your mask:
- Make sure you cover your mouth, nose, and chin. Don’t leave gaps between your face and the mask. The mask should sit snuggly on your face.
- Don’t touch your mask while using it; this could cause contamination. Always clean your hands before doing that.
- Once you have a mask on, don’t drink, eat, or touch your face.
- Always replace the mask with a new one as soon as it gets damp or if you’ve worn it for 4 hours.
- Never re-use a single-use mask.
When you want to remove it, you should never touch the front of the mask. Please remove it from behind and immediately discard it in a closed bin and clean your hands.
Cloth masks can be washed in the washing machine with other clothes. Make sure they’re completely dry before re-use.
I hope you’ll find these tips helpful and protect yourself and others from the coronavirus contamination.
Practice social distancing and be safe.
