I hope you put to test some of the tricks in one of my previous articles, now it’s time for you to learn other tactics that will help you achieve a better sleep and relieve you of annoyance.
Herbal Armor DIY Spray
For a better smelling variation (although not as potent as the first one), you can use dried herbs. For example, give the mix below a try:
You will need distilled water, witch hazel or rubbing alcohol and dried herbs (peppermint, spearmint, citronella, lemongrass, catnip, lavender, etc.). Now you will have to boil one cup of water (8 ounces) and add 3-4 tablespoons of dried herbs total in any combination from the ones mentioned above.
You can also throw in a couple of dried cloves. Mix everything well, cover, and let cool (by covering, you keep the volatile oils in). After you have strained the herbs out, mix 8 ounces of water with one cup (8 ounces) of witch hazel or rubbing alcohol and store in a spray bottle. Don’t forget to place it in a cool place.
Aromatherapy and Insects
Yes, they don’t go well together. Essential oils contain certain substances that make mosquitos fly away in horror. In addition, you are in full control because I will teach you a few recipes that will keep you safe from those bothering invaders. Less expensive and not harmful (unless you are allergic to one of them), this alternative does not only smell great, but also has incredible results.
All that you need for these anti-bug sprays, is a spray bottle and the combination of the following recipes:
1st mix:
- 5 drops of lemon essential oil
- 10 drops of basil essential oil
- 10 drops of citronella essential oil
- 2 cups of water (16 ounces)
2nd mix:
- 5 drops of lemon essential oil
- 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops of citronella essential oil
- 2 cups of water (16 ounces)
3rd mix:
- 20 drops of lemon grass essential oil
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
- 5 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 20 drops of citronella essential oil
- 2 cups of water (16 ounces)
4th mix:
- 20 drops of lavender essential oil
- 20 drops of vanilla essential oil
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil
- 2 cups of water (16 ounces)
5th mix:
- 20 drops of rosemary essential oil
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil
- 2 cups of water (16 ounces)
Now you can start mixing any of the recipes provided above and apply them on your skin (make sure you test first if you’re allergic to one of the oils or not). You can even spray the mixture on your cloths or drapes. I’ve used these recipes for a few years now and gave them to friends and family and they all are very satisfied with the results. Why wouldn’t you want to be as well?
In addition to repelling insects, these aromatic mixtures have the following benefits:
- anti-inflammatory
- antispasmodic
- decongestant
- deodorant
- antiseptic
- antibacterial
And keep in mind that the properties presented are only from eucalyptus essential oils. Now put into the perspective the strong combos that you have at hand. Try these for a few days and tell me if you’ve noticed any change.
