Dangerous Ingredients in Beauty and Cleaning Products

Act fast! Grab the first beauty or cleaning product at hand and take a look at the label. Can you see the following compounds listed there?

Using the commercial cleaning products – overflowing with heavy side effects – is a deadly mistake… Fortunately, you now have the chance to avoid suffering the consequences of using them… Consequences that very few are aware of

Formaldehyde (Releasing Preservatives)

Formally used to balm the dead, now it is used as preservatives in a wide range of cosmetics, as well as an ingredient in nail products, hair dye, fake eyelash adhesives, and shampoos.

This substance could be hiding under the name of DMDM hydantoin, diazolidinyl urea, imidazolidinyl urea, methenamine, quaternium-15, and sodium hydroxymethylglycinate.

Health hazards of Formaldehyde:

  • Triggers cancer.
  • Damages the brain.
  • Induces allergic reactions.
  • Interferes with normal growth and development in children.
  • Causes asthma.

Coal Tar

You can also find it under the names of aminophenol, diaminobenzene, and phenylenediamine. This substance is derived from petroleum (a fossil fuel from which they also make plastic!!!).

And is extensively used in cosmetics, hair dyes, dry skin treatments, anti-lice and anti-dandruff shampoos, also listed as a color plus number, i.e. FD&C Red No. 6.

Health hazards of Coal Tar:

  • Toxic to the brain.
  • Recognized as a human carcinogen.
  • Human carcinogen – it has been linked to tumors in laboratory tests conducted by the S. National Cancer Institute.

  • Not approved by the FDA for use in food (although it may be ingested-lipstick).
  • It’s not to be used anywhere near your eyes, because it can trigger irreversible problems, such as blindness.

PEG Compounds (Propylene glycol, polyethylene glycols, or polyoxyethylene). They are used as a penetration enhacer ingredient in many products. Because peg compounds are often contaminated with 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide, both known carcinogens, you should avoid them for safety reasons. Also, watch out for words with “-eth” or “-oxynol” in it (it’s likely one of these PEGs).

Health hazards of PEG Compounds:

  • Increase the risk of leukemia, breast, brain, and uterine cancers.
  • Experimental studies suggest that these compounds promote liver, skin, and lung tumors, and carcinomas of the gallbladder

  • Cause severe allergic reactions.
    • Inflict asthma.
    • Cause breathing difficulties.

  • Produce liver, kidney, and lung damage.
  • Promote cancer.

Siloxanes (methicones)

These can be found in a variety of cosmetics that soften, smooth, and moisten.

Health hazards of Siloxanes:

  • Disrupt your hormones.
  • Interfere with fertility and libido.
  • Be harmful to fish and other wildlife.

Sodium Lauryl (Laureth) Sulfate / ether / SLS / SLES

It was formerly used as an industrial degreaser, now it’s manufactured to make soap foamy.

Health hazards of Sodium Lauryl:
