3 Essential Oils Everyone Should Have at Home

Mary, my mother in law, was skeptical when she first saw the present I gave her (a basket with essential oils).

But once she heard me raving all about their benefits, her opinion changed 180 degrees.

Essential oils are in general extremely good, no matter what your preferences are.

Their benefits go beyond the feelings of relaxation and calmness.

But, if you’re just starting to harness their health effect, then you should definitely begin with these five essential oils that possess great health qualities:

  1. Tea Tree Essential Oil

Properties:

  • Fights infections
  • Speeds healing time
  • Antifungal and germicidal effects
  • Strengthens your immune system
  • Natural diaphoretic (induces sweating)

How to use it?

If you suffer from a cold, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil in the shower gel (preferably natural fragrance-free, without coloring).

If you have candida, I recommended you to put some drops* in the bathtub water and take a bath for at least 20 minutes.

*You would normally add about seven drops of essential oils to a bath, but if you have a sensitive skin, or have not tried a particular oil, first mix the essential oil to a carrier oil or a small amount of shampoo and then add it to your bath water.

To heal wounds, dip a clean cotton cloth in a solution made out of two drops of Tea Tree oil in a cup of hot water (let it cool first and mix well).

Use gentle sweeping motions to clean the cut or wound.

  1. Bergamot Essential Oil

Properties:

  • Boosts your mood
  • Stimulates appetite
  • Reduces depression
  • Antiseptic (especially for digestive problems)

How to use it?

If you have a fever, you can put some compresses in cold water in which you add ten drops of bergamot oil.

Then wrap your feet around with the compress.

If you suffer from a sore throat, put three drops of bergamot oil in cold water.

Rinse your mouth with it, but don’t swallow it.

To improve your mood, reduce stress, and avoid anxiety, put a few drops in your diffuser or aroma lamp.

And just enjoy its soothing effect.

  1. Geranium Essential Oil

Properties:

  • Invigorating
  • Reduces pain and bleeding
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Nourishes dry skin
  • Eliminates chronic fatigue
  • Heals wounds and acne or eczema
  • Antiseptic (good for infections of the stomach and intestines)

How to use it?

To prevent depression and promote a comfort and healthy state of mind, pour a few drops into your diffuser a few times a day.

If you suffer from sore throats or have an oral infection put three drops of geranium essential oil in a glass of water and rinse your mouth and throat.

Remember not to swallow.

  1. Lemon Essential Oil

Properties:

  • Antibacterial
  • Reduces fever
  • Heals wounds
  • Reduces itching
  • Moths and ants’ repellent
  • Balances your blood pressure
  • Induces relaxation and calmness
  • Adjusts your kidneys and pancreas functions
  • Invigorates and fortifies your nervous system
  • Energizes your heart and cardiovascular system

How to use it?

If you have weak nails that break easily, coat them daily with some drops of essential oil of lemon mixed with carrier oil (like coconut, almond oil, etc.).

Massage the oil into the nail but always after you dilute it with carrier oil.

A few drops of lemon oil in your diffuser helps freshen up and disinfects the room.

If you don’t have a diffuser, put a few drops of essential oil on a wet towel and place it on a hot stove.

If you suffer from a respiratory disease, put a drop of lemon essential oil on the corner of your pillow.

This way, not only will your breathing be easier and the sickness will go away faster, but you’ll sleep like a baby.

5. Lavender Essential Oil

Properties:

  • Diuretic
  • Antiseptic
  • Diaphoretic
  • Reduces fever
  • Regulates blood pressure
  • Relieves pain and cramps

How to use it?

To reduce cramps and menstrual pain, add a few drops of lavender oil into your diffuser or make a steam inhalation an hour before going to bed.

You can also gently massage the affected zone with circular movements.

Put a few drops of lavender essential oil in your aromatherapy lamp.

It has a relaxant, antidepressant, and calming effect while also helping you enjoy a soothing and natural sleep.

You can use it as a compress to wash skin with problems, acne, wounds, and even those with pus.

Remember to always dilute it properly.

If you suffer from candida, you can pour seven drops of lavender essential oil in the water of your bathtub.

It will sooth the aches and itches, while also helping you heal faster.

This oil is beneficial for different types of Candida fungus.
