5 Natural Antibiotics from Your Kitchen

Yesterday I was running through an old box of things I had deposited in the storage closet, which was full of photo albums, personal items, and books I thought I didn’t need. Nonetheless, one of them really caught my eye because it looked like an herbarium I had forgotten of.

Obviously, I took it out, and this morning I started to dig it. It was my father’s work, and luckily, he had written some info about each herb he gathered. A couple of them were mentioned as having powerful antifungal properties, so the first thing that popped into my mind was sharing them with you.

The internal fungus is a little bit more delicate than toenail or skin fungus because your internal pH varies considerably. The cause of infection is still the same, but not all the remedies that work for the external condition will work for this one, too.

Internal fungus, or candida, occurs when there is an imbalance of the internal pH. This can be caused by breathing in fungus spores, by certain medication (such as chemotherapy or antibiotics) that kills the good bacteria in your body or by an improper diet characterized by acidic foods.

Here are the best five herbs that will help you rebalance your pH and kill the fungus:

1. Garlic – raw garlic is one of the most powerful natural remedies against all kinds of diseases. Its main compound, allicin, has antifungal and antibacterial properties, and it is used even against the most difficult to treat forms of candida. One clove of garlic per day is enough, but if it upsets your stomach, try the powdered form and consume between 600 and 900 milligrams a day.

2. Rosemary – this herb is effective against fungus and candida, without killing the beneficial bacteria as most drugs do. The best way to include it in your diet is to steep two teaspoons of the herb into hot water, and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Strain it and drink it on an empty stomach for best results. A cup a day is enough for relief.

3. Olive leafs – the extract of olive leafs, oleuropein, has potent antimicrobial and antifungal properties. You can find it as capsules that contain 20% oleuropein, and the recommended daily amount is between 2g and 6g a day.

4. Goldenseal (Hydrastis Canadensis) – it is one of the most respected plants in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Not only does it kill the fungus, but it also strengthens the immune system by activating the white blood cells. Use it as a topical rinse, by mixing one teaspoon of powder with a cup of water (8oz).

5. Oregano leafs – these leafs are effective in destroying the fungal biofilm, which makes the fungus resistant against most remedies. For this reason, this is the only herb I recommend you to combine with any other of this list because it enhances their effect.

Some of these remedies are successfully used for toenail fungus, as well. You can even combine them during the schedule, but don’t use two of them on the same day. Even if the symptoms disappear after the first five or six days, stick to the schedule for ten days to completely prevent the infection from reoccurring.
