Popular houseplants that are killing your health day by day

If you notice that you feel unwell when you are at home, look around and see what indoor plants you have in your home.

Sometimes the most common houseplants are the cause of discomfort and sickness. Check out the list below – these flowers should not be kept in your house!

Fern

Fern is not poisonous, so you can keep it at home, but only in rooms not intended for rest. The fact is that it has a very bad effect on sleep. During the day, the fern absorbs a lot of oxygen, and at night it releases carbon dioxide. All this can cause headaches and insomnia, from which a person will feel bad. It is also contraindicated to keep ferns at home for people suffering from allergies.

Azalea

This is a very beautiful flower. However, do not forget that it is poisonous. If the sap gets into the body, it can do a lot of harm: cause nausea, vomiting, general weakness and disturb the cardiac function, which is the most dangerous.

In addition, during flowering azalea fills the room with a strong aroma. Keeping it in a room with tightly closed windows and poor ventilation is not allowed.

Diffenbachia

This spectacular plant with brightly striped leaves is often used for indoor landscaping because it is unpretentious. However, the sap of the diffenbachia is poisonous to humans and animals. If it gets on the skin and mucous membranes, it can cause severe burns. If accidentally swallowed, it can cause severe swelling and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract.

Spathiphyllum

Spathiphyllum, or "woman's happiness," is also poisonous. The flower contains calcium oxalate, which causes severe irritation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and stomach. Poisoning by this substance can be suspected by severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Prickly pear

Although the prickly pear has an interesting shape and colorful flowers, it is considered an unfortunate choice for your home. These plants have a special property of absorbing energy and emitting negative vibrations, which can lead to an energy imbalance in the room. Instead, it is recommended to choose plants that purify the air, such as aloe vera or sansevieria.

Primrose

Primrose, consisting of small bunches of colorful flowers on slender stems, are often popular houseplants due to its colorful petals and pleasant fragrance. However, all parts of primrose contain toxins that can cause symptoms such as stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhea if ingested by humans or animals, so they should never be kept in homes.

Croton

This plant secretes a dense white juice. It irritates the skin and in some cases can cause allergies. It is particularly dangerous to get the juice in your eyes. If croton juice is swallowed, nausea may occur, swelling of the tongue may occur, sometimes the person may lose consciousness.

Nerium oleander

This is an extremely popular ornamental plant due to its extraordinary beauty, bright colors and green leaves. However, this plant has a dangerous and poisonous side that many people don't think about.

Leander is one of the most poisonous ornamental plants. All of its parts, including its leaves, stems, and flowers, contain toxic chemicals known as oleandrin and nerianthin.

These substances can cause serious poisoning symptoms including gastrointestinal upset, confusion, rapid heartbeat and even death in severe cases.

If your favorite plants have been blacklisted and you don't want to part with them, read attentively the rules for handling the plant and limit access to it for children and animals. But if you do have to take the plant away, don't be too upset. There are many beautiful, noble and, most importantly, completely safe plants that you can keep in your home without any worries.
