Eating to Ease Gout Flare-Ups

Gout is one of the most painful conditions you can have.

I may not have experienced it myself, but my poor mother used to suffer from the worst flare-ups.

Little did I know back then how important is food in all of this.

But luckily, you’re about to find which foods to avoid and which to add to your diet so that you’ll never have to deal with the severe pain attacks which often follow those with gout.

Let’s start with what you should ditch immediately.

If you’re not reducing these foods from your regular diet, gout flare-ups are only going to become worse.

Here’s what you should avoid:

  • All organ meats including liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, and brain;
  • Game meats like pheasant, veal, venison, etc.
  • Fish like herring, trout, mackerel, tuna, sardines, anchovies, haddock, etc.
  • Seafood like scallops, crab, shrimp, and roe;
  • Sugary beverages including fruit juices and sugary sodas;
  • Added sugars like honey, agave nectar, and high-fructose corn syrup;
  • Yeasts including nutritional yeast, brewer’s yeast, and other yeast supplements;
  • Refined carbs like bread, cakes, cookies, etc.

All of these foods either have high purine content, which increases the likelihood of gout flare-ups; or they contain fructose, which increases the levels of uric acids, one of the reasons why your joints get inflamed.

The following foods are gout-friendly, meaning that you can eat as much of them as you’d like since they decrease your risk of gout flare-ups and excruciating pain:

  • All fruits, especially cherries since they lower uric acid levels and inflammation.
  • Vegetables like potatoes, peas, mushrooms, eggplants, and dark green leafy vegetables;
  • Legumes like lentils, beans, soybeans, and tofu;
  • All nuts and seeds;
  • Whole grains like oats, brown rice, and barley;
  • All low-fat dairy;
  • Eggs;
  • Beverages like coffee, tea, and green tea;
  • All herbs and spices;
  • Plant-based oils, including canola, coconut, olive, and flax oils.

And you know what the best part about these foods is?

They are rich in therapeutic antioxidants that reduce inflammation, rejuvenates cells, and lowers inflammation in your entire body.

How many of these foods do you have in your pantry?

I’m really curious to find out, and if you have any questions, please let me know.
