How to Ease Painful Bone Spurs in Your Feet

Dealing with bone spurs is clearly one uncomfortable ailment, especially when the spurs occur along the feet. Minor routine activities such as going to the bathroom or walking around the house can become a pain in the…soles of your feet. And I’m not talking about long walks in the park or in the woods, because they’re history.

But what are these bone spurs and why do they occur?

They are a reaction of the body to pressure and stress. If you walk or run using the same pair of shoes for a long period of time, those shoes will put or divert pressure on the same points on your feet. This pattern leads to rubbing of the skin on the same spots, which eventually harden and calcify.

You can prevent them from appearing, and even slowly reverse them by doing any of the following:

1. Buy comfortable shoes

I have always had trouble finding the right pair for me, because my right foot is slightly longer than my left one, and I’m somewhat between numbers. When buying a new pair, make sure that you can walk with it for more than a couple of minutes. Test it and walk around the store with both shoes on. It’s imperative to check whether both of them are comfortable, because the feeling can differ. Also, make sure you always have at least two pairs for daily use, and that each diverts the pressure differently.

2. Stretch your feet

Heel spurs occur because there is too much tension and stress. By releasing this tension, the area slowly recovers by itself. You can stay on your bed, as if you were sleeping, and point the top of your feet towards you. If it’s easier for you, sit up, pinch your toes, and press the entire feet towards the inside. Do 5 reps of 4 seconds press each.

3. Massage the area

You can try this ingenuous massage that consists in rolling your soles on a rod. At first, the pain will be severe, but it will fade away as you continue. Moreover, in a couple of days or weeks (depending on the severity of your problem), the spurs will go away.

Your health is in your hands!
