The time is approaching to take stock and make New Year's resolutions: to make promises to yourself for the next year, to set goals, and to make new plans. More often than not, as you probably already know from your own experience, they don't work out.
What happens when you make New Year's resolutions to "drink more water," "go for a walk," "spend time with friends," and "run in the morning?
You just forget about them.
At best, you remember them in the fall, and that's when you get to feel ashamed. Right?
What if I told you that I usually accomplish at least 90% of what I planned and promised?
I’ll tell you how I succeed.
First, let's find out why your goals might become pointless:
It's not what you really want.
There are many things that are accepted to want, such as "exercise," "take care of the environment," "call your mother every day”.
Don't copy someone else's list, don't engage in "pretty" plans for the next year. The point is to listen carefully to yourself, not to chase the goals that society imposes.
Circumstances have changed.
You have planned so well each month, for the New Year's holidays – a trip, then in April, March and May – to earn a lot of money, in May again a trip… And then you're asked to vacate your rented apartment, for example. Or you lose your job. And oops – no more expensive trips, plans are ruined, and the guilt grows.
So try to choose something that will be relevant until next winter, regardless of the circumstances.
- Your plans are too general, like "feel a lot of joy" or "learn two foreign languages".
It doesn't work that way.
Set real, achievable goals, then they will come true. Start from the simplest to the most complex and important.
How to set goals for the New Year correctly and effectively?
I suggest you consider a few of my rules that I follow when setting new goals and which have given excellent results:
- The goal should be important to you, not coming from relatives, friends, otherwise the mind will resist, inhibit the implementation of the idea.
- The goal should be formulated in specific units: earn so much …, lose weight by … kilograms.
- Be sure to set realistic goals, write them down and constantly adjust them as necessary.
- Goals should be achieved consistently, starting with the most important one, the realization of which affects the realization of the others (most often it's finances or health).
- It is important to find the motivation, why you need to implement the goal, what prospects will open up, the benefits, opportunities, and interest yourself as much as possible.
And finally, the most important rule: plans for the new year must necessarily include the area of health as the main priority.
Your state of health affects your effectiveness in life – your aspirations, your desires, your accomplishments. Without a good state of mind and body, it's impossible to live life to the fullest, to enjoy life, to overcome difficulties, and to advance toward your goals.
Plans for the new year are not a fairy tale for adults, but a clear picture of life, which you create with your own efforts.
May all your goals be achieved in the coming year!
