Earaches can be slight to extremely painful.
A fluid buildup causes an ache to your ear due to some infection or pressure build-up in the middle ear.
Most common cause of an earache is due to plugging ‘Eustachian’ tubes. It is a channel connecting the ear to the nose.
If your Eustachian tubes become blocked, it is a high possibility of bacteria buildup or infection.
The fluid will gather there resulting in a painful earache. The increase in pressure leads to pain, hearing loss, itching and swelling elsewhere in the ear.
Common Remedies for Earaches
To avoid earaches and infections, you should keep the Eustachian channel free of pollutants, irritants and you should regularly clean the nasal passage.
To bring the most immediate relief, put a warm compress on the aching area and press against it. You can soak a towel or a gauze in hot water and use it.
After you take a bath, dry your ears without rubbing them. You should soothe the ear by using the heat setting of a hair dryer.
You can soothe a sore ear with warm mineral oil. Use a dropper to drip the oil in and gently pull the outside of the ear to make sure it goes down.
If you feel your ears hurt when the pressure changes, you should chew gum or suck on candy. It will activate the muscles that send air to your inner ears. The instance you hear your ears “pop,” you’ll feel better.
Another useful method is closing your mouth, relaxing your cheek muscles, holding your nose and blowing one nostril at a time. Repeat the process gently until you feel better.
